UPTOWN FRESH - Youth Arts Program

Uptown FRESH is a youth development program focused on educating teens about art influences on society, who identify as people of color, between the ages of 13 to 17 years old, located in the “northeast” section of Greensboro, NC. The program’s curriculum is a 10-week course that will provide youth with additional entrepreneurial skills in the areas of design, technology, and media.

UPTOWN FRESH PROGRAM

Uptown Fresh is a 10-week (currently virtual) program which seeks to educate teens in the Uptown Greensboro area about art, while gaining hands-on practical and employable experience in design, multimedia, and technology. Each participant will work to produce 3 program outcomes based upon a topic of interest. The youth will create a podcast episode, a piece of video content, and digitally design content (photography, artwork, written work, etc.) to be published in the "Fresh" magazine.

We believe that through this initiative of exposing our youth to an evidence-based art curriculum, it will have a positive impact on their attitudes and outlook towards future careers. Each session will be delivered virtually by a qualified instructor who will prepare students to complete an assignment each week to reinforce their learning. This program is perfect for teens who have an interest in art, technology, or media and are looking for a positive and nurturing environment to cultivate their gifts and talents. PROGRAM SESSION DETAILS

The Uptown Fresh Program will be broken up into two sessions. The first session will lay the foundation for development of media skills and proficiencies critical to success in the program. The second session will be catered towards helping participants create their content for the magazine, which will be showcased to family, friends, and community members at the Uptown Fresh Zine festival (TBD based on social gathering guideline rules) at the conclusion of the program.
